Recently, an Oppo posted a question about what road is your happy place. I don’t really have one but I did think about the old Concord Covered Bridge, so I drove over there. Yes, I finally bucked up and bought a battery for the Cruze. Turns out the old one wasn’t even the proper size.
Saw some things along the way though. More pictures on my wanderings around that area of the Silver Comet Trail and a video of me driving through around and through the bridge coming soon.
I haven’t seen a Buick Riviera of this generation at all in a long time, much less one in this good of condition. There are a few exterior blemishes but it really is quite solid. Almost perfect interior too.
a Pontiac GTO that isn’t restomodded out the wazoo is quite rare.
This house always has the best stuff. In this case an old Pontiacs and a Corvette out front with something else behind. There are a few other cars floating around their driveway.
Traffic was seriously heavy today, but there were plenty of cool rides out and about. Just in this one picture, from left to right, we have a Challenger, a Nissan with some polarizing rims, and a Caddy wagon.
I also finally got out the pressure washer and washed off the pollen from my car.
Much better. I can sleep at ease knowing that pollen is washed away. I actually had to dust my windows to see out of them for the morning drive.
How have y’all been?

I’m pretty sure I saw that GTO at a car show at the Varsity in Kennesaw last fall.

The Pontiac next to the red Corvette appears to be a 1940 DeSoto.

I’ve lived and worked in the area for almost 30 years. But I’ve never actually been to , nor even seen a picture of the covered bridge. So I read the second sentence , and yes finally, I’ll get to see the covered bridge ...

Dang nab it ! I never seem to get those right. But thank you as always.

Maybe. It's rare for them to be so completely in period.

No problem. I am one of those few weirdos who has a memory for the real oldies.

Later tonight probably. I took a video of me driving around it from all angles so you’ll see. It’s a neat area but my goodness is the road narrow. Have some Silver Comet trail until then.
BTW did you call Old Car City USA to see if they are open? I tried but I didn’t even get a ring on the other end, but I'm still heading out early tomorrow to get there when they open.

No, I don’t think that makes you a weirdo.
I have a great memory only within this one subset of cars , but I started my knowledge by memorizing the make and model of every car I saw on the road as a child. I’ve had to work my knowledge backwards through books and the like to have any sort of understanding of stuff that wasn’t common o n the roads before that time.

I can recall minutiae about cars from eons before I was born, but I am terrible with human names and I’ll forget about work meetings 2 days later :)
I had a pile of old car-themed books and magazines when I was a kid, I must have just devoured them. My dad was also into old cars, so he was an influence.

I have similar tendencies to devour car related knowledge and have it stick with me, but I guess I didn’t quite have the impetus to memorize specific models and years of cars so far back. I would happily rattle off facts about everything from Tatra to J eep, but I seem to focus on the stories, I guess, while also forgetting every important date and event in my own life.
The biggest difference here is that my dad never was that into cars and never did repairs himself, though the smaller things were ways to save money.

All of the year and model changes interested me more than trivia and fun facts, and I think being able to point out different years pleased my dad. It’s to the point where for some cars (especially MBs, but a few others), I can even identify the general era of a radio or door panel, the name of a color, etc. My dad was into old cars and we even had a few when I was growing up - 50s and 60s material was easy to find here back in the 80s and 90s, and much of it wasn’t expensive. I did a bit of my early driving in 1960 and 1966 Fords, and this was in the 90s. He also liked to work on his own car, to save money and I think because he knew he could do it just as good. I didn’t inherit the desire to wrench though lol

Did not call. I was planning to call tomorrow to visit Saturday.

If I forget, just comment at me and I'll tell you the situation.

Yes, they are open. I went this morning and brought a lunch to eat there. The foliage isn’t too bad so you can still see pl enty of stuff.
